HYPOTHETICAL FUNDING PAYMENTS

Perpetual Funding Rate Calculator

Enter your own funding rate to estimate what you would pay or receive on a constant-notional perpetual position.

This calculator covers linear, quote-settled perpetual funding in USD, USDT or USDC. Coin-settled inverse funding remains in the Workbench.

Editing requires JavaScript. Without it, you can still read the initial results, worked example and model explanations below.

Your assumptions

Manual inputs

Total position value, not margin or collateral. Greater than 0 and at most 1,000,000,000,000 in the selected currency.

−10% to +10%. Entering 0.01 means 0.01%, not 1%.

Whole hours from 1 to 24.

0 to 8,760 hours; fractional hours are allowed.

Funding projection

Simple annualized funding rate

The annualized market rate keeps its sign for both directions. Position direction determines who pays or receives.

Constant assumptions, conditional payments

Rates and notional are hypothetical and held constant. The projection assumes the position remains open for the modeled settlements. Price P&L, trading fees and liquidation are not evaluated.

Actual exchange schedules and rules may differ. Annualization is a mathematical comparison, not a forecast.

Inputs and units

Position notional is the total position value, not margin or collateral. Enter a finite amount greater than zero and no more than 1,000,000,000,000 in your settlement currency. Amounts remain in the selected currency; USDT and USDC are not converted to USD.

Enter the rate as a percentage per settlement interval: 0.01 means 0.01%, equivalent to a decimal rate of 0.0001. The supported rate is −10% to +10%. Intervals are whole hours from 1 to 24; holding periods range from 0 to 8,760 hours and can include fractional hours. Choose Long or Short to determine the payment direction.

Formulas and payment direction

For the mechanics behind the rate you enter, read how perpetual funding rates are set and paid.

Signed payment = notional × decimal interval rate × direction sign
Direction sign: long = −1; short = +1
Settlement count = floor(holding hours ÷ interval hours)
Total funding = sum of modeled settlement payments
Simple annualized rate = interval rate × 24 × 365 ÷ interval hours

Positive funding means longs pay and shorts receive; negative funding reverses those flows. Positive cash flow means received, negative means paid. The annualized market rate retains its sign regardless of position direction. At a fixed notional, leverage does not independently multiply funding.

Worked example

A short with 10,000 USDT notional, +0.01% funding every 8 hours and a 24-hour holding period has 3 settlements: at hours 8, 16 and 24. It receives 1 USDT per settlement and 3 USDT in total. The simple annualized funding rate is 10.95%. A long under the same assumptions pays the same amounts.

Timing and model limits

Settlement times are measured from the hypothetical opening time, not aligned to a real exchange's funding clock. The first modeled settlement occurs one full interval after opening. A settlement exactly at the holding-period boundary is included; incomplete intervals produce no payment. A zero holding period therefore has no settlements.

Rate and notional remain constant, with no compounding, reinvestment or automatic position resizing. Annualization uses 365 days and is a mathematical comparison, not a forecast, return on collateral or trading profit.

This projection assumes the position remains open. It does not calculate an exchange funding rate from a premium index, predict future rates, or simulate account survival. Price P&L, trading fees and liquidation are excluded; actual exchange schedules and rules may differ.

For a scenario outcome including funding, use the Perpetual P&L Calculator. For a trigger mark with zero accrued funding, use the Liquidation Price Calculator.
